DENTIST EXCHANGES CASH AND A DONATION TO UNITED WAY FOR HALLOWEEN CANDY

Parents, you don’t have to continue to watch your kids snack on piles of candy they collected at Halloween. So whether you’re fighting with them over hording it under their beds or struggling to keep them from finding where you’ve hidden it, there’s a solution.

Local Dentist Dr. Andrew Lunn is offering kids a sweet deal this week – cash for their Halloween candy. This dentist is offering $1 to kids from ages 1 to 13 for every pound of unopened candy they bring to his office, up to a 10 to 12 pound limit. But this isn’t just a treat for kids and their parents.

Dr. Lunn will donate $1 to United Way of Greater Chattanooga for every pound of candy he buys. Then, through the provisions of the United States Army, he will ship all the collected candy to U.S. troops stationed in Iraq. So not only is this a great opportunity to teach kids about healthy diets and good oral hygiene, it’s also the perfect opportunity to teach them about helping others.

The Great Halloween Candy Buy-Back will take place at Dr. Lunn’s offices in the Corporate Image Complex at 1606 Gunbarrel Road, Suite 104, from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, or in this case, a pound of candy,” said Dr. Lunn. “Dentists aren’t like Willie Wonka’s father in the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Candy in moderation is fine as long as parents can get their kids to floss and brush their teeth twice a day. But now we know excess sugar also contributes to other health problems like childhood obesity. Giving parents a chance to get the sweet stuff out of the house creates a positive learning opportunity for children and helps prevent health problems before they start.”

No child or parent will leave empty-handed either. If the candy doesn't equal a pound, the child will get a Chick-fil-A coupon. And every parent who brings a child on Wednesday will receive a $50 gift certificate toward the cost of a teeth-whitening procedure.

For more information about this event, please call Dr. Lunn’s office at (423) 553-8858.
