United Way's Volunteer Center is accepting nominations until April 6 for volunteer awards to be presented April 17 at the organization's Volunteer Heroes recognition event.

Each year, local companies committed to community service, along with nonprofit organizations from across the area join together to celebrate volunteerism and to honor local volunteers for their efforts at United Way's volunteer recognition event, hosted annually during National Volunteer Week in April.

This year, the awards celebration will be held April 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Block building, 7th and Market Streets downtown. To nominate an outstanding volunteer, complete a nomination form at www.uwchatt.org or call United Way's Volunteer Center at (423) 752-0329.

One volunteer will be recognized from each of the following five categories; Community, Education, Environment, Health and a special category. In addition to these awards, the Volunteer Center will recognize a local company committed to community involvement with the Corporate Volunteer Award. Companies may self-submit for this award. For more information, call 752-0329.

The Volunteer Center is part of United Way of Greater Chattanooga, which funds nearly 80 local programs impacting early learning, encouraging self-sufficiency and giving dignity and hope to the most vulnerable in our society. Thanks to an endowment that covers all overhead and administrative expenses, one-hundred percent of contributions goes directly to fund services in greater Chattanooga, northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama.
