CHA TTANOOGA, Tenn. United Way's Project Ready for School initiative has put free books into the hands of more than 12,000 children under 5 years old in the greater Chattanooga area. Now, the early education initiative is partnering with Reader's Digest and Books Are Fun to host a benefit book sale that will help raise funds to continue that work.
??????????? Reader's Digest/Books are fun partners with non-profit organizations throughout the country for these events, but according to David Krishock, President & CEO of Books Are Fun, this sale will be one of the largest and most public events they have ever hosted.
?"All of us at Books Are Fun are proud to be affiliated with United Way. Books Are Fun hosts close to half-a-million book sale events in North American annually - but few as significant as this one supporting the Project Ready for School initiative. We are delighted to offer our amazing products at discounted prices as well as provide a donation - helping children read creates lifelong learners and what could be more important than that?"?????????
Holly Ashley, Director of United Way Project Ready for School, says it's important that adults set the bar for reading in their homes.
?Children should not only be read aloud to everyday, but should see the adults in their home reading as well,? says Ms. Ashley. ?Making books a part of the home environment and culture makes life long readers out of the children in that home.
?Sale patrons may expect large discounts on high-quality books?from children's books and activity sets to cookbooks to gifts, stationary and more. Books Are Fun officials also note that most items
will be discounted to less than $10. A portion of the proceeds will benefit United Way's Project Ready for School initiative.
??????????? United Way's Project Ready for School provides free books and learning checkups for children five years and under, along with free classes for parents and caregivers. For more information about the benefit sale or how you can sign up a child in your life for United Way's Project Ready for School, call 752-0300 or visit www.uwchatt.org/ReadyForSchool.
