TIME TO STUFF THE BUS

August 3rd, 2011

STUFF THE BUS FOR EDUCATION
United Way holds school supply drive for second year

Many Chattanooga area students lack the supplies they need to go back to school prepared for success. That’s why United Way invites the community to participate in the second annual STUFF THE BUS school supply drive for children and teens to equip our local youth for success in school.

United Way is asking everyone to host a supply drive at their business, school, or place of worship, or just donate school supplies at a drop-off event or location listed. Go online at LiveUnitedChattanooga.org to download posters, supply lists and other templates to help organize a drive.

United Way collected more than $10,000 in school supplies in 2010.

United Way has organized and scheduled more collection dates in 2011. The following is a list of current collection locations, events, dates and times. Please contact United Way at 423-752-0300 or visit the website atwww.LiveUnitedChattanooga.org for continuing updates:

  • All area Publix stores through August 14
  • Tax-free weekend at Hamilton Place Mall on Aug. 5 & 6, from 11 a.m. to      7 p.m. and on Aug. 7 from noon to 6 p.m.
  • City of Chattanooga Handcuffs & Hoses Softball game between the Fire & Police Departments – Date, Time and Location To Be Announced
  • Live United Day at the Chattanooga Market, on Sunday, August 21, from    11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • United Way Campaign Kickoff at the Convention Center, Thursday, August 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Project Ready for School Birthday Party at Warner Park on Sun., Sept. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Because students' supply needs don't end when school begins, Stuff the Bus will be continued through October. Lists for needed supplies by grade level can be found at http://www.hcde.org/hamilton-county-schools/dress-code-supply-lists. You may also donate dollars to purchase school supplies. Any amount is welcome.

Supplies will be distributed to nonprofit organizations that serve students in need through United Way's 2-1-1 Resource Center. For more information, go to www.LiveUnitedChattanooga.org, call 423-752-0300, or email communityrelations@uwchatt.org.
