2008 TOCQUEVILLE PHILANTHROPY AWARD ANNOUNCED
United Way of Greater Chattanooga's annual Tocqueville Celebration of Thanks was held October 7 at the Patten family's beautiful home, Ashland Farm. Approximately 50 Tocqueville Society members joined us that evening for a wonderful affair.
We presented our 2008 philanthropy award to the Davenport Family: Mrs. Joseph Davenport, Jr., Joe and Susan Davenport, and Ward and Ashley Davenport. The award, created by Cessna Decosimo, depicts his artistic interpretation of a woman in need.
The entire Davenport family was recently honored for their generous philanthropic efforts in the Chattanooga area.
Not only has Mr. Davenport been a loyal contributor to United Way, but he has been a very generous donor at his church. Joe gives to numerous charities and supports education through gifts to organizations such as the Public Education Foundation, the Tennessee Aquarium, the Creative Discovery Museum and various schools and colleges.
He supports health related charities such as the American Cancer Society, Siskin Rehabilitation Hospital, and the Brain Injury Institute. Joe and Susan even co-chaired the Siskin Hospital annual Possibilities Luncheon last year. He is also a big supporter of the arts and numerous nature and land conservancy issues across the southeast and the country.
United Way is fortunate to have such wonderful families as the Davenports giving, advocating and volunteering on our behalf. We wish them much good fortune throughout their lives and hope they continue to inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
