Save Money - Join Gifts in Kind Helping nonprofits work smarter and help more through in-kind corporate donations
Through United Way's Gifts In Kind, nationally recognized retailers donate top-quality products, such as office supplies, books, toys, clothing and personal care items. Member nonprofit agencies have access to these items at a fraction (10 to 20 percent) of the retail cost, allowing these organizations to operate more cost-efficiently, and impact the lives of more people. Membership in the program is open to all 501(c)3 organizations, even school PTAs!

Results you can see:
• More than $2 million in products were distributed to local nonprofit agencies through Gifts In Kind in 2007.
Corporate donors, at the same time, receive a generous tax deduction for donating new, unused merchandise to Gifts in Kind.
United Way’s GIK is a member of GIK International and gets much of its product donations through them. Annual membership to GIK is $150. Membership allows organizations to take advantage of donated items at the local distribution center, as well as from the GIK International web site (www.giftsinkind.org). Members are charged a small administrative fee for purchases to cover shipping, warehousing and other overhead costs.
Plans for GIK in the future include expanding the program by developing partnerships with local agencies for job training for their clients to assist with warehouse management and product distribution.
GIK members must:
• Be a 501(c)3
• Use items solely for the care of the ill, needy or youth
• Goods cannot be sold
• Goods must be used for the mission that makes the organization tax exempt
