Day of Action
United Way’s Project Ready for School Holds Education-Focused Event: Free Book Enrollments and Learning Checkups at Hamilton Place Mall on Saturday, June 21 United Way of Greater Chattanooga will join United Ways across the country in the first National Day of Action. This event is part of United Way’s new LIVE UNITED campaign and serves as a call-to-action for individuals to come together in a collective effort to make needed changes in their communities. United Way will be at Hamilton Place Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to enroll families for free books and give children free learning checkups. “Advancing the common good means recognizing that we are all connected and interdependent,” said Eva Dillard, CEO for United Way of Greater Chattanooga. “It involves creating opportunities for a better life for all. When individuals, organizations, governments and businesses set aside their special interests and work together, we can make a difference. Living United means being part of the change.” Our community is joining other communities all across the country that are taking action today – demonstrating how they LIVE UNITED by giving, advocating and volunteering in the areas of education, stability and supporting the most vulnerable. This year, United Way of Greater Chattanooga is mobilizing the Day of Action around early childhood education. There are several different ways you can support early childhood education:
United Way of Greater Chattanooga is focusing on education because it wants to ensure that children have the skills they need to be successful in school and life. We all win when we invest in early childhood education. It leads to adults with greater success in life, fewer brushes with crime, higher levels of education and higher incomes. Lasting social changes like these can prevent problems from happening in our communities in the first place. United Way of Greater Chattanooga funds local programs that create opportunities for people to care for themselves and each other, making our community the best at helping people achieve their potential. Thanks to an endowment fund that covers all overhead and administrative expenses, all contributions (100 percent) go directly to services that help individuals and families in greater Chattanooga, north Georgia and northeast Alabama.
