ART OF CHANGE
The Art of Change is a program of the City of Chattanooga specifically designed to address the panhandling issue. Throughout the most affected areas, special "parking meters" will be available to deposit change that could be given directly to a panhandler. In most cases, well-intentioned donations further enable and encourage a dangerous lifestyle. Depositing spare change into special "Art of Change" meters provides a better way to help. All proceeds will be distributed by United Way of Greater Chattanooga to programs that provide comprehensive services for those who are truly in need. The United Way of Greater Chattanooga and the City of Chattanooga are accepting applications from Chattanooga-based non-profit agencies for small grants to help finance programs that assist the homeless or prevent homelessness. Grant applications may not request more than $2,500 for a period of 12 months. Emergency fund applications may not request more than $100 reimbursement per month. You can also download this information on the City of Chattanooga's web page. Applications are closed at this time. The next round will begin in 2009.
