2009 National Volunteer Week - Chattanooga Area Celebration Events
Saturday, April 18
· 7 p.m. - Lookouts Celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Night at AT&T Stadium
Tuesday, April 21
· The Children's Home/Chambliss Shelter's Annual Friends Luncheon to honor volunteers will be held at noon in the Children's Home gymnasium.
· Annual Volunteer Banquet “Volunteer United: Sowing the Seeds of Volunteerism” sponsored by ACE Hardware and the Corporate Volunteer Council will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Unum Atrium. All volunteers and organizations throughout the area are invited. Jack Kruesi will deliver the keynote address and musical entertainment will be provided by the Bramble Roses. The evening also includes dinner and drawings for doorprizes. Tickets are $15 per person and all proceeds benefit United Way’s Volunteer Center and DOVIA. · 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Bessie Smith Hall, Girls Incorporated of Chattanooga will celebrate the legacy of Rep. Shirley Chisholm at the 2009 UnBought and Unbossed Awards by recognizing 10 outstanding female role models in the Chattanooga area as selected by Girls Inc. girls. Individual tickets are $35 and can be purchased online or by calling 423-624-4757.

· Foster Grandparent Program will honor its current volunteers with a continental breakfast at the monthly in-service meeting. The breakfast will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church at 2305 E. 3rd Street. · Celebrate the Power of Seniors at the Ginny Power Ball to Benefit Senior Neighbors at 6 p.m. at The Mill. Tickets are $75 and all proceeds benefit Senior Neighbors, a United Way supported program of Alexian Brothers, which includes the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. The evening will include dining, ballroom dancing demonstrations, a performance by the Scenic City Chorale ensemble, and musical entertainment by the Jim Wilson Quintet and the Opus III string ensemble. · Signal Centers will recognize past and present volunteers at “A Celebration of Signal Centers: An Interactive Open House Experience” from 5 to 6:30 p.m. All Signal Center volunteers are invited to come out and enjoy a fun-filled evening with staff, program participants and supporters.
